Final Reflection

I have learned a lot in this class and I have a new found respect for web developers. It is a lot of hard work planning and maintaining a website. Putting all the components together are very time consuming and consists of many layers. The most important thing I learned was defintely how to put together my own web hosting and link it to a domain. Also how to link it to a site generator like WordPress. There are so many things that can be done and I have seen a few just in this class. Maintaing a website takes a lot of dedication and I am glad that I was exposed to it in this class. it is definitely something that I will be able to carry on in the future and apply it to different aspects of my career and school work.

I also enjoyed learning about the scripting behind the website. The HTML, CSS and FTP were very interesting to learn. I knew that there were many codes and things involved behind the scenes of a website, but I never thought that I would actually start to understand some of them. Knowing what some of the symbols and shortcuts mean is a huge step and makes me feel like I actually know what I am doing at some point of this web developing process. The codes and shortcuts that were taught to us made the process seem not as intimidating as I thought it was at first. Definitely one of the most valuable things I learned in the class, even if I may not make all my websites from HTML and up, it is nice to know that I experienced the basics and the fundamentals of what a website truly is. I enjoyed this class very much, one of the most realistic things I have learned thus far.

Task 6

My last task is to personalize my site with photos of myself so they are able to put a face to the name. I have a friend that is a photographer and we are in the works of getting images up. We are planning the shoot and picking a place for it to take place. For the most part, we are just trying to figure out what kind of shoot I want. If its going to be fashion, or more professional. So as far as now the task is done, but still kind of in progress. I am sure I will be changing this multiple times before I am happy with it.

Bonus: Making up Missed Tasks

As I’m making up my missed tasks I still realize how unsure I am of everything still on my site. Even down to my about me. I am not sure if I want it to be more profession or personal. I have a feeling that this site it going to be ever changing, I hope that is okay.

Reflections Essay: Community

I think that corporate blogging can be used very intellectually if done right. Blogging is something that is so versatile and flexible that it can be used in many ways. There are ways to make it more professional which can help you promote your business or your company any which way you choose to. It is a way for the consumer to become more familiar with your brand or company on a more personal level. It gives more insights and adds dimension to the company or business. I believe that it provides a sense of community within people to know that there are real personalities behind the companies.   I also believe that facebook and twitter allow for a community to be built with certain people. I know facebook lets you interact with people and connect to people. The people are separated by networks but everyone is reachable to a certain point. You are able to “add” your “friends” and then eventually build your own community within those people linked to your facebook. It is a place where you are able to interact and communicate, therefore making it a type of community on its own. I think twitter is the same way. You are able to “follow” who you want and maintain relationships with certain people. With these networking tools you are able to build and run your own community, and also be as involved or uninvolved as you want. Just like the live discussion area of our class website. That is a community on its own because we are able to interact with each other and we know that we are all there for the same purpose. Not only do we have a class community but also a virtual community with makes communication so much more easier and efficient.

Final Presentation

For my finaal presentation I am hoping to hit all the most important parts of my website. I want to showcase exactly what it is about with out going off track with the main point. I want to showcase my fashion blog as being something that is for everyone and that anyone can access and utilize. The most important part about it to me is that I want everyone to know that all the information on the site is coming from an everyday person just like themselves. I want to everyone to be able to regularly revert back to my blog when ever they want and just follow me through the trends and fashion that I am keeping up with. The audience of the blog is not just geared toward women. It would be for anyone that has remotely any interest in style and current trends. I am definitely not limiting that to just women because that does not seem fair. There are enough just “women” fashion sites and blogs out there to be seen. The design should appeal to the audience because it is not limited to gender. There are some sites that you stumble across and you already know that you don’t belong there. I want this site to not be one of those sites and you are able to make a flash judgment. I don’t want it to be read in a glance. I am incorporating my name and my style and definitely also making it represent me. I am still not completely sure that I am going to keep it as a fashion blog for the long run but I like how it has turned out so far. I want it to be somewhat professional so that I am able to show it to people to showcase my experience in web design and blogging.

Task 5

My 5th Task was to set up a Twitter and Facebook account correlating to the site for endorsing purposes. That way you are able to follow and to “like” it for promotions for the site.

Task 1

My first task of my website was to find the appropriate theme for my website. I think I have found a theme that will highlight my  visual components without being distracting to the reader. I am not going to have to customize much which is exactly what I was going for. The theme is a crucial part of the entire project and I’m glad I at least got that done.

Starting Assumptions

I have never used any kind of content management systems before. I know that the .com and the .org and all of that have a specific meaning, but I have never gone out of my way to actually know what they stand for. I have found some themes that I am considering but am not sure exactly how I want to want my initial site to look like yet. I feel like there are not many differences between the free themes and the themes that cost money. They all seem very similar. I have heard of open source software but I have never used it for myself. I do not have any open source licenses. I have never read the entire license of any software that I have installed before, just because they seem so redundant and probably the same for every software. I figured that it was all common sense. Does anyone really read the entire thing?

Reflections Essay

I want my site to appeal to different types of people. I think my personas that I created were pretty diverse to one another. One was an average college student that was always on the go. She also spent a lot of time on the internet, doing school work and communication with friends and family. I think that my site would appeal to her because it would be frequently updated and would try to stay up to pace with people that are on the internet a lot. My other persona was a married mother of two. She also is also frequently on the go and has very little time to spend on the web. She does not sit at the computer to browse, but she relies on it to keep her updated with all current news and trends.

I want the design of my site to be very inviting and pleasing to the eye. I don’t want it to be loud and in your face. I want the colors to be toned down with certain pops of color just to draw attention to the more important areas of the site. No one is going to want to visit a site that is loud and busy. My favorite color is pink but I think I am going to hold off using that color all together. I don’t want my site to be gender stereotyped. Usually when the color pink is displayed people already seem to associate it with female. I want my site to be appealing to men and women with a desire for fashion and style.

There are many themes that would cover the attention points for my site. The main highlights of my page are going to be pictures and some blog posts. I want the pictures to be vividly displayed because that is where the trends and styles will be displayed. It is going to be a very visual site.

Starting Assumptions

I am very new to web designing, and I know that writing and styling for the web is different than any other kind of styling. I understand that my website is not going to be a total compilation of all my favorite attributes of design. My favorite color is not something I need to incorporate because that may not be what suits my website. Everything has to relate and be pleasing to the digital eye. I know the fonts used have to be simple and clean, and pleasing to the reader.

I love writing for the web. I think it is a great way to express thoughts and information to the masses. It is especially intriguing because it does not have to be such professional script. I love blogging, because I can let my personality be expressed without having to write in formal format. Being digitally eloquent is definitely an admirable skill.
